For the RYA Advanced Powerboat Course, key skills include:

• Advanced Boat Handling – Mastering precision maneuvers, including docking, tight turns, and controlling the boat in confined spaces.

• Navigating in Challenging Conditions – Handling a powerboat in rough weather, strong tides, and limited visibility.

• Night Navigation – Operating safely in the dark using navigation lights, radar, and other night-specific techniques.

• Long-Distance Passage Planning – Planning and executing longer voyages, considering weather, tides, and emergency procedures.

• Using Advanced Navigation Equipment – Operating GPS, radar, and charts to enhance safety and accuracy on the water.

• Emergency and Rescue Operations – Performing rescues in various conditions, including man overboard drills and responding to distress situations.

• Tidal and Current Navigation – Understanding and managing the effects of tides and currents on course and boat handling.

• Safety and Risk Management – Enhanced awareness of risks, including handling critical failures and decision-making in emergency situations.

These skills build on the knowledge gained in the Intermediate Powerboat course and are designed for operators who want to navigate in more complex environments.

Requisitos

• Candidates should be competent to the standard of Intermediate Powerboat Certificate

• Candidates should have a thorough knowledge of navigation and chartwork to the level of the Coastal Skipper/RYA Yachtmaster Shorebased certificate.

• It is strongly recommended that candidates hold a first aid certificate and a VHF operator's certificate

• The candidate must be at least 17 years old.
