Programme
Over a full day, you will learn to adjust all radar controls, interpret radar images, and use the equipment for navigation and collision avoidance.
The course uses a radar simulator where you will practice various scenarios and gain hands-on experience operating the equipment.
Topics covered include:
Radar operation and powering on the system;
Understanding radar images;
Refining radar images;
Radar reflectors;
Radar and COLREGS - collision avoidance;
Determining position using radar;
Radar piloting techniques.
The course fee includes 1 support book (RYA Radar) and an exercise book (RYA Radar Exercises), as well as a certificate upon successful completion.
It is also possible to arrange individual or customised training, using either the simulator, your own vessel, or a combination of both.
While on-board courses are possible, prior simulator use is recommended. This allows the instructor to create a variety of scenarios tailored to your needs.

Locations
The Oeiras Marina offers rapid access to high-quality waters. It features modern, well-equipped facilities to support sailing, including restaurants, shops, changing rooms, security, and parking.
Its location at the entrance of the Tagus estuary allows for both open sea navigation in clear waters or sailing in the more sheltered waters of the Tagus.
Proximity to Cascais and Belém, as well as quick access to destinations such as Sesimbra, is another advantage to consider.
