West Coast proudly owns a true Blue Water Cruiser. Our RM1350 “PATAGONIA” is a remarkable 44’ (13.60 m) yacht, perfect for those who want to log more miles and gain real offshore sailing experience.
From April to October, we organize numerous passages between Lisbon and the Algarve, an excellent opportunity to build experience and add miles to your sailing curriculum.
For students aiming to take the RYA Yachtmaster Coastal ou Offshore, these trips are the best way to accumulate the necessary sea miles (800M / 2500M respectively) and meet the experience requirements for these prestigious RYA certifications.
During one of our trips, you’ll join the crew on a coastal or offshore passage and learn from a professional skipper about life on board — from passage planning, navigation, and sail handling to electronic systems, night sailing, and watchkeeping routines. And of course, there’s always time to anchor for a swim or enjoy a short visit ashore.
Requirements
Due to the nature of this type of trip (duration and physical demands), it is essential to have prior cruising sailing experience.
The minimum prerequisite is therefore the RYA Competent Crew or Carta de Patrão Local The RYA Day Skipper (theoretical e practical) is also recommended, along with the RYA VHF-SRC.
Duration and Destinations
Our trips typically last one week.
We also offer shorter programs near our base in Oeiras, typically lasting 2 to 4 days.
In 2023 and 2025, the program included the Algarve and the Bay of Cádiz. In 2024, we were in Ibiza.

Our RM1350 “PATAGONIA” (2012) is a fast, high-performance cruiser that still offers the comfort required for cruising. It can accommodate 6 students plus 2 crew members, with a total of 3 cabins and 8 beds.
includes central heating and all the safety equipment required for this type of navigation, including EPIRB, SART, satellite phone, Navtex, radar, AIS, GPS plotter, VHF-DSC, among others.
