Marina maneuvering techniques for small boats in tight spaces

 Marina Boathandling

Covers the techniques for maneuvering with an engine inside and outside the marina when space is limited and precision is critical. This course is ideal for anyone looking to improve and practice their "boat handling" skills in tight spaces.

Through a series of simple yet effective exercises, you will learn and practice essential techniques to handle most situations you will face when maneuvering in restricted areas. These techniques include docking with minimal crew (even alone) so that whenever crew is available, everything is straightforward.

A fundamental option for anyone who wants to gain confidence maneuvering in tight spaces and feel comfortable performing one of the most challenging and often feared tasks on board.

  • Propeller slip and pivot points;

  • Turning in tight spaces;

  • Entering a marina berth (bow-in and stern-in);

  • Docking;

  • "Springing off" (moving the bow and stern away)

  • "Ferry Gliding";

This module lasts 1 day (8 hours) and can be split into two mornings.

Locations

Oeiras Marina offers quick access to high-quality waters. It has modern facilities supporting nautical sports, including restaurants, shops, changing rooms, security, and parking.


The surrounding area includes several beaches, an ocean pool, and a seaside promenade. Its location at the entrance of the Tejo estuary allows for open-sea sailing in clear waters or navigating more sheltered waters within the estuary.


Theoretical classes take place in a DGRM-approved room at Oeiras Marina. Practical sessions are conducted from the marina on fully accredited vessels.
