FAQ -  RYA Courses

The Royal Yachting Association (RYA) manages a training and certification system across various areas of recreational boating (dinghy and cruising sailing, motorboating, and windsurfing). It is the most respected and internationally recognised training scheme for its quality and high standards.

There are accredited schools all over the world that adhere to strict operational standards (safety, training, equipment) and are therefore authorised to offer a continuously updated, high-quality training and certification programme. West Coast is one of these schools, certified to provide both
sailing and motor training.

Visit the website of
Royal Yachting Association for more information about the RYA.

The RYA (Royal Yachting Association) sailing training programme stands out from many others, such as those of the American Sailing Association (ASA) or International Yacht Training (IYT), mainly due to its global recognition, rigorous quality control, and clear progression pathway towards professional qualifications.
The main differences and advantages of the RYA training scheme are:
1.  International Recognition and Prestige
Widely Respected: RYA qualifications are generally regarded as highly respected and are seen as a benchmark of quality worldwide.
Professional Pathway: RYA Yachtmaster Competence Certificates (Coastal, Offshore, and Ocean) are internationally recognised and can receive commercial endorsement, making them valid qualifications for skippers and professional crew on both commercial and professional recreational vessels in many jurisdictions worldwide.
2.  Quality Control and Standardisation:
Regular Inspections: The RYA maintains strict quality control, inspecting all recognised training centres globally, often on an annual basis. This ensures that boats, equipment, instructors, and training standards consistently meet the RYA’s high criteria.
Instructor Training: RYA instructors must complete specific RYA instructor courses and regular updates, guaranteeing high teaching standards and safety.
3.  Assessment Methodology:
Practical Focus (for most courses): Many RYA practical courses (such as   Competent Crew e Day Skipper Practical)  are assessed by the instructor based on the student’s performance throughout the course, emphasising practical skills and competence rather than a single written exam (although theoretical knowledge is required and assessed in separate courses).

Independent Examination (for Yachtmaster):  Higher-level    RYA Yachtmaster Competence Certificates (Coastal, Offshore, Ocean) are awarded following the successful completion of a demanding practical examination conducted by an independent RYA Examiner, not the school instructor. This independent assessment is crucial to maintaining the qualification’s high standard.
4. Comprehensive Scope:
A RYA oferece uma vasta gama de programas de treino que abrangem quase todas as atividades aquáticas, incluindo vela ligeira (Dinghy), vela de cruzeiro (Sail Cruising), motonáutica (Powerboating), motor cruising, personal watercraft (PWC), and specialised courses such as Diesel Engines, First Aid e Marine Radio (VHF/SRC) or Sea Survival. This extensive framework allows continuous progression across different areas of boating.
5.  International Certificate of Competence  (ICC):
RYA-qualified individuals can often easily apply for the International Certificate of Competence (ICC), which is required or accepted for bareboat chartering and operating recreational vessels in inland and coastal waters of many European countries and other regions worldwide.
In summary, while other programmes such as the ASA and IYT are also globally recognised and respected, the unique strength of the RYA scheme lies in its rigorous, independently assessed professional qualifications, consistently high global standards enforced through mandatory inspections, and its comprehensive coverage of various water sports.

Here are some of the advantages of choosing the RYA certification scheme:

  • Obtain an internationally recognised competence certification;

  • Benefit from a programme with a strong practical component, continuously updated and focused on “hands-on” skills

  • Apply for the certificate that matches your existing experience and skills (enter the programme at any level according to your experience, avoiding the need to complete a lower level if you already have prior experience).;

  • Achieve your certification in less than a week by spending 5 days sailing aboard a yacht or 2 days on a rigid inflatable boat.

  • Courses are taught in English and form part of a global progression framework.

RYA (Royal Yachting Association) sailing courses essentially have two main formats, with different durations:

::On-board practical courses (cruising/sailing):

Format: Practical lessons where students live on board the yacht for the duration of the course, actively participating in all aspects of sailing and life on board, including manoeuvring, navigation, and watchkeeping.

Typical Duration: Most of these courses, such as Competent Crew , Day Skipper Practical e Coastal Skipper, last 5 days. The Start Yachting, which serves as an introduction, lasts 2 days.

:: Shore-Based / Online Theory Courses:

Format: Focus on theoretical learning (navigation, meteorology, rules, etc.), delivered either in a classroom (shore-based) or increasingly online (e-learning), allowing study at your own pace.

Duration: Duration varies depending on the course and method (in-person or online). For example,  Day Skipper Theory and Yachtmaster Theory are more extensive courses, measured in hours of study or sessions/days if classroom-based. Online, they can be studied “anytime and at your own pace.”

Depending on the course level, activities may include night navigation, and port arrivals depend on conditions. In a typical 5-day course, students embark on Monday morning and disembark on Friday afternoon by 17:00. Lessons are always practical and on board; even when there are more “theoretical” exercises, these are carried out during sailing, at anchor, or in the marina.
The teaching methodology is based on practical experience, so students go to sea whenever conditions allow, including on the very first lesson. Therefore, bring your sailing gear from day one!

In courses under the "RYA Sail Cruising" scheme, taught on cruising yachts, the maximum instructor-to-student ratio allowed by the RYA is 5:1. There are also "Premium" courses available, with only 3 students plus the instructor on board and a private cabin.
In courses under the "RYA Powerboat" scheme, taught on rigid inflatable boats (RIBs), the maximum ratio is always 3:1.

Not necessarily. The introductory levels do not require prior theory and are designed to provide a first hands-on experience on board. For example, "RYA Start Yachting" (2 days), RYA Competent Crew (5 days) both sailing, or RYA Powerboat Level 2 (2 days) motor, have no theory prerequisites.

However, for those seeking a more thorough preparation for their practical course, the RYA Essential Navigation & Seamanship (online) is recommended as an optional first contact with supporting theory. It provides an excellent introduction to the key theoretical topics fundamental on board.

More advanced courses, such as "RYA Day Skipper" e RYA Coastal Skipper as well as Yachtmaster, competency certificates, require theoretical knowledge. This can be acquired through self-study or by attending one of our classroom or online courses. We offer "RYA Day Skipper Shorebased" and "RYA Coastal Skipper/Yachtmaster Shorebased"courses, either in-person or online, to complement the corresponding practical courses on board.

These courses provide knowledge on tides (currents and heights), chart work, onboard electronics, passage planning, pilotage, the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, lighthouses, safety, and meteorology.

Of course, it depends somewhat on the course you choose, but there are numerous options that can be arranged to fit your availability..
The "RYA Powerboat" are available on weekends and weekdays. Five-day sailing courses can be taken from Monday to Friday, but levels up to and including "RYA Day Skipper" can be split into a 3+2 day format (split weekend). This means you can complete your course over one weekend plus an additional three-day weekend. The RYA Coastal Skipper course always requires 5 consecutive days from Monday to Friday, as it includes a coastal passage.

O RYA Start Yachting a 2-day introductory course, is always available at weekends.

Specialist classroom courses, such as RYA VHF-SRC is highly recommended

, RYA First Aid, RYA Diesel Engine or RYA Radar are also available on weekends.

Please contact us so we can assist with the various options and formats, or consult our calendar for availability.

The courses are essentially practical. Naturally, many theoretical concepts are also learned, both during the first lesson, which includes a slightly longer initial briefing, and by making use of days with bad weather or no wind.
Practical courses always include a theoretical component, but it is strongly recommended that this is completed beforehand in order to make the most of the practical sessions.

Some of our courses offer an e-learning system to support theoretical learning. Always consult your instructor by email or phone if you have any questions regarding theoretical concepts.

The so-called “theory” courses are primarily those leading to a Carta de Navegador de Recreio (in the Portuguese system) and to the Cursos RYA Shorebased (in the RYA system, taught in English).

The theory courses that support the practical courses are all available through distance learning (e-learning). Some specialist courses are also offered online.

Thus, the following courses are available online:

. RYA Essential Navigation and Seamanship

    . RYA Day Skipper Shorebased

. RYA Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster Shorebased

. RYA VHF-SRC is highly recommended

(requires an in-person exam to obtain the VHF operator certificate)

. RYA Professional Practises and Responsibilities

In all courses, you will find high-quality physical and digital learning resources to support your studies. All courses follow an asynchronous system, allowing you to study at your own pace and according to your availability.

Yes, you can take the final exam of your course at home with the supervision of a family member or friend. The theory courses serve as a knowledge support for the practical courses, so theoretical knowledge is always validated and tested during the subsequent practical course. Without this knowledge, your instructor will not be able to recommend the issuance of a higher-level practical certificate.

If the aim of this training is professional, we recommend taking the exam at an RYA-certified school..

In the specific case of the  RYA VHF-SRC is highly recommended

course, which can be taken online, the exam is always conducted in person..

Not necessarily. Surprisingly, sailing requires very little equipment beyond comfortable sportswear.

Of course, there are many interesting and comfortable items of kit, but we recommend taking a few sailing lessons first and consulting your instructor before deciding to purchase anything, so you can make an informed choice.

Our course confirmation email includes a recommended clothing list, namely:

  • Soft-soled, non-slip shoes with white soles (e.g., sailing shoes). High heels are strictly not allowed.
  • Comfortable sportswear (avoid necklaces and earrings).
  • Cap, sunscreen, and sunglasses (in summer).
  • Windbreaker, wool jumper, and a change of clothes (for cooler or wet winter days, especially for sailing school students).
  • Always bring a sweatshirt or windbreaker, essential if sailing in the late afternoon, even in summer.

Some students find fingerless gloves particularly useful to protect their hands from the ropes.

We also offer complete Helly Hansen equipment for hire for periods of 1 day or 5 days if needed. Please contact us for more information and to make a reservation.

All courses within the training scheme RYA are taught in English. Please read our terms and conditions, which are printed on the back of your registration form. Different courses have different cancellation policies, so you will need to check the specifics for your case.

The  RYA Courses are organised in two possible formats. In the "Standard" format, up to 5 students participate along with the instructor on board. This instructor-to-student ratio is the maximum allowed under RYA standards. If you choose to stay on board during a "Standard" course, the cabin is shared, or you may sleep in the saloon.

In contrast, "Premium" courses have only 3 students plus the instructor on board, and a private cabin is guaranteed if you choose to stay on board. This format ensures more dedicated time with your instructor and greater opportunities to practise and repeat manoeuvres.

The term "Carta de Marinheiro" ou "Carta" in general refers to the Portuguese certification system (Carta de Marinheiro, Carta de Patrão Local, Carta de Patrão de Costa e Carta de Patrão de Alto Mar). These are primarily classroom-based courses, and upon passing a written exam, they confer a legal and mandatory certification in Portugal to operate a recreational vessel.

RYA courses do not have, as their primary aim, the immediate issuance of a “Carta,” as they focus on developing practical skills. However, from the level of "RYA Day Skipper" (sailing) or RYA Powerboat Level 2 (motor), it is possible to apply for an ICC (International Certificate of Competence) which serves as an internationally recognised certificate to operate a vessel. Once the ICC is obtained, you can request the Portuguese authorities to issue a Portuguese certificate considered equivalent. Portugal automatically recognises all certificates issued by European Union authorities. Certificates issued by the United Kingdom, however, require an equivalence process, which can be completed online at www.bmar.pt .

Alternatively, to obtain a recreational skipper’s certificate, you can enrol in a "Recreational Skipper Coursewhich leads directly to the issuance of a recreational skipper’s certificate Carta de MarinheiroCarta de Patrão LocalCarta de Patrão de Costa and Carta de Patrão de Alto Mar). These courses, under the Portuguese certification system, are taught in Portuguese and require a good command of the language.

We have many students who, after a beginner sailing course, feel confident enough to navigate and learn on their own, making their own mistakes. Others feel they need more hours of guided instruction.

However, after a beginner course, you will certainly have experienced a variety of situations (strong wind, light wind, etc.) to help you make this decision for yourself.

One thing is certain: after a beginner course, you should be ready to be a competent crew member on board, familiar with fundamental manoeuvres (tacking, jibing, heading up, bearing away), nautical terminology, and onboard safety. This is where you should start.

In any case, our advice is to gain additional experience, for example by taking an RYA course with a week on board and 5 days of sailing, where you can truly experience the reality of cruising sailing.

Remember, however, that in Portugal, to take command of a vessel, you must hold a recreational skipper’s certificate.

Yes, of course. It is a skill that is important to practice and develop. Sailing courses of "RYA Day Skipper" and higher-level courses include night navigation. For example, the "RYA Day Skipper" typically includes a night pilotage exercise of at least 4 hours. Currently, we use chart planning as well as electronic navigation with GPS plotter and radar. The course RYA Coastal Skipper already includes entries and exits from more complex ports and even a night passage. If your instructor chooses to stay anchored overnight, you will certainly take part in a four-hour anchor watch.

The RYA Powerboat Level 2 course is strictly a daytime course and does not include night navigation. To develop this skill under power, you would need to take the RYA Intermediate or RYA Advanced Powerboat course, which is not currently available.

And After the First Course? How Can I Continue Sailing?

At West Coast, you will find many options to continue practising regularly without having to buy a boat and deal with all that entails.

FAQ - Portuguese Courses

The courses leading to a Portuguese license (Carta de MarinheiroCarta de Patrão LocalCarta de Patrão de Costa e Carta de Patrão de Alto Mar) are mainly classroom-based and theoretical. Although they provide legal certification in Portugal to operate a vessel, they do not offer hands-on sailing experience, particularly under sail. The same syllabus applies whether you are operating a jet ski, a motorboat or a sailing boat.

This legal certification is mainly required if you plan to buy or rent a boat and be responsible for it. We recommend taking one of these courses only after gaining some practical experience, either sailing or operating a motorboat.

Courses leading to a recreational boating licence are always taught in Portuguese and conclude with a final exam conducted by an external examiner from the DGRM. The first level you can take is Marinheiro but it is possible to go directly to Patrão Local. To enrol in the Patrão de Costa or Patrão de Alto-Mar levels, you must already hold the preceding qualification.

However, if you are looking for a recreational boating licence course and would like to begin by learning some theoretical concepts — such as chart navigation — then the best option is probably to start with the Patrão Local.

Please contact us so we can provide personalised advice and help you find the most suitable option for your situation.

Yes, you can enrol directly in the Patrão Local course without having the Marinheiro licence, but for the more advanced levels (Patrão de Costa e Patrão de Alto Mar) you will need to hold the previous certificate.

West Coast offers courses at both Oeiras Marina and Parque das Nações Marina. The theoretical components of the recreational boating licence courses are taught at these locations. The practical component is always conducted at Oeiras Marina, where we have our fleet of both sailing and motorboats.

Practical lessons are scheduled at the start of your course, when the school will provide the available dates for the class. The instructor then organises the student groups according to the calendar and the maximum number of students allowed per practical lesson as set by the school.

Upon completion of the course, the student will already be registered for the corresponding exam. The exam date must always be validated by the DGRM, which may sometimes differ from the initially scheduled date. The exam includes both a theoretical and a practical component. Students only take the practical exam once they have successfully passed the theoretical part. If both components are passed, the certificate is issued electronically by the DGRM to your Bmar client area, and the physical certificate is later delivered to West Coast, where you can either collect it or contact us to arrange delivery.

To enrol in a Portuguese license course, you will need the following documents:- Citizen Card or a valid identification document;-Passport-style photograph

-Medical certificate of physical and mental fitness

-Declaration of swimming ability;

-Proof of minimum compulsory education (for Patrão de Costa e Alto-Mar

Is this Licence accepted abroad?

Portuguese recreational boating licences are generally recognised among European Union Member States. However, each country has the right to decide whether to accept a certificate issued by another country for operating a recreational vessel.

For this reason, whether in the EU or in a third country, you should always confirm with the local maritime authorities whether the Portuguese certificate is accepted. This is particularly important if, for example, you plan to rent a boat without a crew for your holidays. The rental company may also require proof of experience, such as a log of miles sailed or previous rentals. In this context, RYA-certified courses are widely accepted and recognised as proof of practical competence for crew-free rentals.

Normally, if you are sailing in the territorial waters of another country on a vessel flying the Portuguese flag, your Portuguese certificate will be accepted under the "Innocent Passage" clause of UNCLOS.

For the recreational boating licences, there are no fully online courses; attendance in person is mandatory, with both classroom and on-water practical components. The school provides students with access to an e-learning platform to support independent study at home and help prepare for the exam. Contact us to find out if this resource is available for your course.

E-learning serves as an essential support for self-study outside the classroom, especially for theoretical courses such as the Portuguese recreational boating licences.
These learning resources support your study but do not replace the need to attend in-person classroom lessons. You will receive a password for access when you enrol, but if you have not received one, please request it by email (not all courses include e-learning resources).

What happens if I miss a Lesson or fail the Exam?

If you are unable to attend the exam or, for any reason, fail it, you can register for the next available exam date by paying the corresponding exam fee. The exam fee is the cost charged by the DGRM.
It is not mandatory to retake the lessons, but you must ensure that your medical certificate is still valid at the time of the exam (the medical certificate is valid for six months from the date of issue).

The Patrão de Costa and Patrão de Alto Mar courses include practical lessons with night navigation.

The first two levels Marinheiro e Patrão Local only include practical lessons with daytime navigation.

    FAQ - Others Courses

No, you can take the lesson on board one of our sailing boats; however, if you have your own boat, we can also conduct the lesson on board it.

    Firefighting

The course includes a theoretical component (2 hours) and a practical component (2 hours) taught at the National Firefighters School (Sintra).
There are no prerequisites other than a minimum age of 16. Minors may still participate, provided they are always accompanied by an adult.

    FAQ - ICC

No, you can apply for your ICC by completing an online form, attaching a photocopy of your RYA certificate, a photograph, and proof of nationality. Please always check the "Exclusion List" for nationalities for which the RYA cannot issue a British ICC .

Being eligible to receive a UK-issued ICC from the RYA  does not guarantee that it will be accepted in the country whose flag your boat flies, that you own, use, or rent, nor does it guarantee recognition as proof of competence in the country where you plan to sail.
It is your full responsibility to ask the necessary questions to ensure that a UK ICC issued by the RYA is the correct document for your specific circumstances.

The validity of the ICC is often misunderstood. The ICC is not equivalent to an EU driving licence, which all EU member states are required to accept. The ICC originates from the United Nations and, although the ICC allows the holder to sail internationally, it is only valid if the country you intend to visit chooses to recognise it.

It is essential to verify whether the ICC is accepted by the authorities in the country where you plan to use the boat (taking into account the size and type of vessel and where it will be used) and to ensure you meet the competency requirements set by the flag state of the vessel.

O ICC issued by the RYA is issued in the name of the UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA); it does not grant any other certification in the UK or abroad.

O ICC cannot be endorsed for commercial use and should never be used as proof of competence for commercial activities.

The minimum age to take an ICC exam is 16 years.

The ICC exam is both theoretical and practical.
During the exam, your boat handling skills and theoretical knowledge will be tested.

No, the ICC is only valid for operating recreational vessels and is not accepted for professional or commercial purposes.

It depends on the certificate or course you have completed. For example, with a "RYA Powerboat Level 2" your ICC is endorsed “Powerboats up to 10m”. You would need to take the RYA Powerboat Advanced course to exceed this length limitation.

With an "RYA Day Skipper"" (sailing) ICC, the endorsement is “Sailing Boat with Auxiliary Engine”, which generally allows you to operate and take command of most recreational vessels up to approximately 24 metres in length.

To take the ICC exam, you must have practical sailing experience.

This exam is not recommended for beginners. You are expected to have at least the knowledge equivalent to RYA Day Skipper (Vela) or RYA Powerboat Level 2 (motor), as well as the minimum theoretical knowledge equivalent to RYA Day Skipper Shorebased .

The excluded nationalities are those listed below. Please ensure this list is still current, as it is continuously updated. If you hold one of the nationalities below but reside in the United Kingdom, you are still eligible for an ICC, which is valid for 5 years.

    .

Trips usually last one week, although there are also shorter programmes of 2 to 4 days held near our base in Oeiras.

    What are the next destinations?

Check our trip calendar or   contact us for the latest updates, and leave your email to receive all the information first-hand.

What kind of experience can I expect?

During the trip, you’ll join the crew and take an active role in:

    • Passage planning
    • Sail handling and manoeuvres
    • Coastal and night navigation

    • Use of onboard electronics (AIS, radar, GPS, etc.)
    • Watchkeeping and onboard life management.

You’ll also have time to enjoy beautiful anchorages and explore ashore.

    FAQ - Experiences

A Sailing Baptism is an opportunity to experience the thrill of sailing without having to enrol in a full sailing course. It includes around two hours of sailing, during which you’ll get familiar with the yacht and take part in handling the boat. You’ll usually learn some basic knots and sailing manoeuvres such as tacking and gybing. If weather conditions allow, you may even take the helm and steer the boat yourself!
There are special days dedicated to Sailing Baptisms, where all participants are experiencing sailing for the first time. Alternatively, you can also join a regular sailing lesson alongside other sailors who will help you take your first steps on the water.

It’s difficult to say in advance. Sailing depends on the wind’s strength and the tide, which affects the current’s direction and intensity on the day of departure. With moderate wind conditions, it’s usually possible to reach Belém Tower or even exit the Tagus River towards Cascais.
However, during a Sailing Baptism, Go Sailing or Learn to Sail experiences, the goal isn’t the distance covered but rather enjoying the experience itself — getting familiar with the boat, helping with the manoeuvres, hoisting the sails, taking the helm and feeling at ease on board.

Before leaving the marina, your skipper will decide on the most suitable route depending on the wind and tide. On some days, it makes little difference whether you sail upriver or downriver from Oeiras, so the “crew” may even discuss and agree on the preferred route together.

Do I need any previous experience to join?

No! Our sailing experiences are designed for all levels, including complete beginners. You’ll always have a professional skipper on board to ensure safety and help you make the most of the experience. You can simply sit back, relax, and enjoy the sea breeze, or if you’d like, take the helm and have a go at steering the boat. The choice is yours!

How many people are on board?

Our experiences are conducted in groups, with an experienced crew on board. To find out the exact number of participants or to arrange a private experience, simply contact us.

What if the weather is bad? Am I obliged to go ahead with the experience?

Of course not! We want you to enjoy the experience, so if the weather is poor, we’ll reschedule your sailing trip for another date.

For this reason, we always ask for your mobile number so we can contact you quickly if needed.

However, if you’re feeling adventurous and rain or wind aren’t a problem, rest assured that your skipper is happy to sail in all conditions, and your trip will include an extra dose of excitement!

We recommend soft-soled, non-slip shoes (sailing shoes or trainers).Your clothing should be as comfortable as possible and suitable for the season during which the activity takes place.

An extra layer, such as a windbreaker or jacket, is advised, as the wind at sea can make it feel colder, even in summer.

After booking, you will receive a confirmation email with all the necessary information for your activity, including a detailed list of what to bring. Read it carefully and contact us if you have any questions.

Avoid earrings, high heels, and impractical clothing. Generally, sportswear is sufficient, and there are always some spare jackets or clothing on board if needed.

    FAQ - Charter

    FAQ - Gerais

Sailing is a very safe sport, but like any activity, there are some risks that need to be managed.

Sailors are well known in the maritime community for being particularly careful about safety.

At our Sailing School, we pay special attention to all safety matters. Our boats are equipped with all recommended safety gear, and we practice various safety procedures, such as using life jackets, man-overboard drills, and VHF communication, among others.

It is important to understand the risks involved in order to avoid them, but overall, sailing is a very safe sport.

No. Unlike small dinghies, cruising sailboats do not capsize because they have a keel that stabilises the boat.

Cruising boats are equipped with a substantial ballast system (the keel), which lowers the centre of gravity and balances the vessel.

For a boat of this type to capsize, it would require a severe storm with huge waves, which never occurs on the Tagus River. Whenever weather conditions make sailing unsafe, your skipper may cancel and reschedule your trip for safety reasons.

Please check whether your course includes meals on board. On some full-day courses, there is a scheduled lunch break. However, sometimes lunch is taken while anchored in a bay or even while sailing. In these cases, you may need to bring a light lunch with you.

On our RYA Sailing courses, meals on board are included (breakfast, lunch, and some dinners). Meals at restaurants off the boat are never included.

For a 4-hour session, it is usually not necessary to bring food, but you may do so if you wish, as there is space on board to store your bag.

The ideal options are sandwiches, energy bars, and drinks. Water on board is always very important. All food should be light, pre-prepared, and easy to eat on board, even while the boat is moving.

When you confirm your trip, you will receive an email with a map of the meeting point and directions to our shop (see below). West Coast has a shop that is very easy to find in Oeiras Marina.

If you get lost, you can always call us for assistance.

Oeiras Marina offers quick access to a high-quality sailing area. It features modern and well-equipped facilities to support sailing activities, including restaurants, shops, changing rooms, security, and parking.

Nearby, there are several beaches, an ocean pool, and a seaside promenade. Its location at the entrance of the Tagus River allows for open-sea sailing in clear waters or the option of navigating in the more sheltered waters of the Tagus.

Proximity to Cascais and Belém, as well as quick access to destinations such as Sesimbra, is an additional advantage.
Visit our contact page to get in touch with us and locate our shop.

No, to avoid any risk to the fetus, West Coast does not allow pregnant participants or passengers.
Passengers are required to inform us of any pregnancy when booking an experience or enrolling in a course.
Even in very early stages of pregnancy, boarding a sailing boat is not advised.
