Requirements
This course is available for beginners, so there are no prerequisites. However, most candidates have at least a few days of experience as crew on a sailing or motor vessel.
Some practical experience is highly recommended to enjoy and learn more effectively. For example, if you have already completed RYA Start Yachting, RYA Competent Crew, RYA Powerboat Level 1 or Level 2, or one of our Introduction or Improvement courses (keelboats).
Duration
The classroom course lasts 40 hours in total.
Several options are available:
Online, distance learning (e-learning) with support from an experienced RYA-qualified instructor;
In-person, 5 consecutive days (09:30 to 17:00);
In-person, evening classes once a week over 14 sessions (19:00 to 22:00, usually available in winter);
In-person, twice a week during weekdays (09:30 to 13:30);
In-person, private lessons (custom programme);
Combined RYA Day Skipper Shorebased + RYA Day Skipper Practical (9 consecutive days: 5 days sailing, 4 days classroom). The intensive programme allows missing one classroom day and is increasingly popular for reaching the Day Skipper level quickly with solid theoretical preparation.

Locations
The Oeiras Marina offers quick access to high-quality waters. It has modern infrastructures to support sailing activities, including restaurants, shops, changing rooms, security, and parking.
Nearby are several beaches, an ocean pool, and a seafront promenade.
Its location at the entrance of the Tejo estuary allows for open sea navigation in clear waters or more sheltered sailing on the Tejo.
Proximity to Cascais and Belém, as well as quick access to destinations like Sesimbra, is another advantage to consider.
