    RYA Sea Survival course practical training illustration

    RYA Sea Survival

    Recreational boating is one of the safest sports available. However, as with any sport that challenges our limits, there is always the possibility of accidents or injuries. Going out to sea presents its own challenges and is undoubtedly one of the harshest environments to survive in. When a disaster occurs at sea, we may not even have the opportunity, without assistance, to rest and plan a course of action.

    As the ocean offers little help in such situations, our survival depends primarily on careful planning, preparation, creativity, training, and determination.

    This course lasts a full day (8 hours), with part conducted in the classroom and part in the pool, including practical exercises.

    All RYA courses are delivered in English.

    Programme

    The programme covers the following topics:

    • Life rafts and their equipment;

    • Survival techniques;

    • Life jackets;

    • Medical aspects of survival at sea;

    • Search and rescue techniques.

    The RYA Sea Survival Handbook is included in your learning package.

    Locations

    The Oeiras Marina offers quick access to a high-quality water area. It features modern, high-standard facilities to support sailing practice, including restaurants, shops, changing rooms, security, and parking.

    Nearby there are several beaches, an ocean pool, and a seafront promenade.

    Its location at the entrance of the Tagus River allows for open sea sailing in clear waters or navigation in the more sheltered waters of the river.

    Proximity to Cascais and Belém, as well as quick access to destinations such as Sesimbra, is also an advantage to consider.
